HOW TO GET RECRUITED
IN COLLEGE EQUESTRIAN
Opportunity
There is GREAT news for high school students interested in continuing their passion for riding in college. The opportunities in Collegiate Equestrian have never been better. Currently, over 400 colleges and 9000 athletes participate in Collegiate Equestrian. These equestrians run the gamut of experience from less than one year of riding to seasoned National Champions. Riding disciplines include Western Horsemanship and Reining, Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat and Over/Fences, Rodeo, Dressage and Eventing. From club sports to Varsity NCAA; junior colleges to 4 year universities; small, private schools to large public schools, the possibilities are endless! Thankfully, high school students don’t have to hang up their stirrups simply because they’re going to college.
Challenge
So you’ve decided that with SO many exciting opportunities available you want to proceed with searching for your place in the college equestrian world… Remember – over 400 schools! Where do you begin? How does the process work? How do you navigate the search? Can I compete in college if I’m not recruited? How do I respond if I am recruited? These questions only begin to scratch the surface of what quickly becomes a mysterious, daunting quest… While students and families can complete the process on their own, the learning curve is steep, the process can be overwhelming and stressful and time is often limited.
